DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before responding to the question, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it provided a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.
This relatively innocuous error might be proof - a smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been declared by OpenAI, which when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its truth.
However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not and that it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."
Okay, sure, but in your rather prolonged response to me, you, DeepSeek, made multiple references to yourself as ChatGPT. I have actually included some screenshots listed below as proof:
As you can see, after attempting to determine if I was speaking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it's about the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it refers to "Myself (ChatGPT)."
Why would DeepSeek do that under any scenarios? Is it among those AI hallucinations we like to speak about? Perhaps, however in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed quite clear about its identity.
I got to this line of query, by the way, since I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested for a simple yes or no answer, it informed me, "It's not possible to offer a simple yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too complicated a principle to apply in that way to language models. They have various strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In truth, DeepSeek's response was quite comparable, except it was not always speaking about itself.
This doesn't accumulate
I believe I've been clear about my DeepSeek suspicion. Everyone says it's the most powerful and akropolistravel.com cheaply skilled AI ever (everybody except Alibaba), but I don't understand if that holds true. To be fair, there's a tremendous amount of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.
But I do not believe they reveal how these models were trained. Either way, surgiteams.com I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anybody else's big language models - or at least I didn't up until today.
Who are you?
DeepSeek is significantly a mystery covered inside a conundrum. There is some consensus on the reality that DeepSeek arrived more fully formed and in less time than a lot of other models, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.
Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones due to the fact that there is no other way to understand if China is looking at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has constructed are excellent, and some, including Microsoft, are already planning to include them in their own AI offerings.
In the case of Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was developed based upon innovative ChatGPT models, however in recent months, there have been some questions about if the deep monetary partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and wifidb.science later on Artificial General Intelligence era.
So what if Microsoft starts utilizing DeepSeek, which is possibly just another spin-off of its present if not future, friend OpenAI?
The entire thing seems like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek apparently has an identity crisis.
